Report on the Terrific Kids Activities
The Terrific Kids program is designed to reward 3rd-5th grade students who are trying their best to succeed. It does not necessarily reward the highest performers, because those students usually receive other awards. We hope that the TK students are the ones who will become the high performers in the future.
During the last 2 weeks we presented Terrific Kids certificates to over 150 students at 3 schools – Sedgefield, Joyner, and Rankin. Some of you who have attended the assemblies know that we always like to do something called the “the Kiwanis Clap”. It’s just a simple clap that all the students do together. It’s the simplest thing possible, but I am always amazed at how much the students and teachers like it.
I want to thank the following 4 committee members - Will Harris, Brad Poindexter, Jane Whichard, and Joan Worrell for their help with me in this effort during this first round of the year. TK awards presentations for most schools occur at the end of the 9-week grading periods. The next time that happens will be in January. Also, during January we will have TK presentations at Gateway Education Center, which is a school for disadvantaged children. When I find out the dates I will inform the committee members and anyone else who is interested. Obviously TK is a program that goes along perfectly with our Kiwanis mission to help the children of the world. Anyone is welcome to join the Terrific Kids committee. So, please let me know if you are interested.
